This is a list of just some of the activities taking place in Abbotsford over the next week

ALPEN CLUB MAY DANCE

The Abbotsford-Mission Alpen Club hosts its annual May Dance on Saturday, May 16 at the Community Arts Addition, 2329 Crescent Way. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner is at 6 p.m. Live music is by the Al Pichler Band. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for guests. They are available from Gerda at 604-859-8057.

BRADNER MAY DAY

The community of Bradner hosts its annual May Day celebration on Sunday, May 17 with a family barbecue and dance from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Monday, May 18 with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m.; a parade at 10 a.m., followed by the Maypole Dance; and a fun fair until 2 p.m. All activities take place at Bradner Community Hall  and Bradner elementary.

LIBRARY TECH HELP

Clearbrook Library (32320 George Ferguson Way) holds a Tech Help day on Tuesday, May 19 from 2 to 3 p.m. Find out how to download e-books or use your tablet/laptop. For more details, call 604-859-7814 (ext. 1232). The Abbotsford Community Library (33355 Bevan Ave.) invites appointments for a one-on-one 30–minute session for help with your hand-held device. PINOCCHIO PLAY

Lighthouse Theatre presents My Son Pinocchio Jr. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (32315 South Fraser Way) on May 20 and 22 at 7 p.m. and May 23 at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door or $13 in advance at House of James or online at eventbrite.ca

WOMEN WITH CANCER

The Women with Cancer support group meets Thursday, May 21 at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Rd.   It is held on the second floor at 7 p.m.  This is a relaxed, friendly and compassionate group.  Info: Edith at 604-289-0630

GENEALOGY SOCIETY

The Abbotsford Genealogy Society meets  Thursday, May 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. in studio 2 at The Reach Gallery Museum (32388 Veterans Way). Following the business meeting,  Eunice Robinson, a long-time member of the B.C. Genealogical Society, will highlight Irish research and determining place of origin.

AMATEUR RADIO

Abbotsford Amateur Radio Club will hold licensing classes on May 23/24 and 30/31. Times are 9 a.m. to 4  p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The cost is $50 per person.  All course materials can be found online at abbyarc.ca. For more information, email Ve7ecc@gmail.com

HEALTH VOLUNTEERS

The Abbotsford Public Health Unit (34194 Marshall Rd.) is looking  for volunteers for morning and afternoon clinics held from Monday to Friday. Volunteers must commit to a minimum three-month term and are required to have a completed criminal record check, go through an orientation with a current volunteer, and have a general love for people of all ages. Duties include greeting clients, weighing and measuring infants and small children, and providing information. Those interested can call 604-864-3400.

BLIND GROUP MEETS

The Blind and Visually Impaired Society meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Legacy Sports Centre, #4 – 3270 Trethewey St. Info: 604-626-0643

CARPET BOWLING

Carpet bowling takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Rd. Cost is $1.25. Info: 604-853-5532
