Here is a list of just some of the activities taking place in Abbotsford over the next week.

RETIRED WORKERS

The Fraser Valley branch of the B.C. Government Retired Employees Association meets Monday, March 24 at 1:30 p.m. at MSA Museum Society Gallery (next to Trethewey House) at 2313 Ware St. Guest speaker is Christina Carlsson Reid, collections manager for the museum. Info: 604-852-3973

LEARNING PLUS

The Abbotsford Learning Plus Society holds two classes next week. Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC), 2499 McMillan Rd. The topic on Tuesday, March 25 is  “Trace Remains: Survival Cannibalism and the Franklin Expedition.”  The topic on Thursday, March 27 is “Bee Colony Collapse and the Effect on our Berry Crops.” Cost is $5 per class, plus the $2 ARC drop-in fee. GARDEN CLUB

GROUP FOR WRITERS

The Fraser Valley chapter of the Professional Writers’ Association of Canada meets Tuesday, March 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Little Saigon, 33766 Essendene Ave. Join other writers to share, network and support colleagues. EMPLOYMENT MENTORS

BIF NAKED AT UFV

Canadian rocker and singer/songwriter Bif Naked visits University of the Fraser Valley on Wednesday, March 26 as part of the President’s Lecture Series. She will speak on positivity and leadership from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Envision Athletics Centre, 33844 King Rd. The free event is open to the community.

WEALTH OF CULTURE

HOMINUM MEETS

JUNIOR CHESS CLUB

PEER SUPPORT TRAINING

Abbotsford Peer Support for Seniors begins a training session for new volunteers on Thursday, April 3. The free course is open to men and women 50 years and older.  Training focuses on listening and communication skills, problem management and community resources to help seniors face the challenges of day-to-day living.  Info: 604-850-0011 or apss.seniors@telus.net

IN THE LIVING ROOM

ALATEEN EVERY WEEK

Alateen,. a part of Al-Anon Family Groups, is for young people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking, including that of a parent, sibling or friend.
