BUY THE BOOK

Friends of the Abbotsford Libraries holds a book sale at Clearbrook Library (32320 George Ferguson Way) on Saturday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. DVDs, magazines, puzzles and CD books will also be sold. Info: 604-859-7814 (ext. 232)

MADD OPEN HOUSE

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Abbotsford holds an open house on Saturday, March 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. in preschool room 1 at Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Rd. MADD has recently begun a chapter in the community. Info: madd.ca, madd_abbotsford@yahoo.ca or 1-800-665-6233 (ext. 304)

ALPEN CLUB DANCE

The Abbotsford-Mission Alpen Club of Abbotsford presents a “Kostueme Ball” (Costume Dance) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday,  March 1 at the Legacy Sports Centre, 32470 Haida Drive with  the  “Black Forest Boys” band.  Prizes will be awarded for the three best costumes. PARKINSON’S SUPPORT

The Abbotsford Parkinson’s Support Group meets Monday, March 3 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Matsqui Recreation Centre, 3106 Clearbrook Rd. Guest speaker will be Tammy Kang, a researcher from UBC. Info: Elizabeth at 604-853-0382 or Gary at 604-308-8691

LEARNING PLUS

The Abbotsford Learning Plus Society holds two classes next week. Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC), 2499 McMillan Rd. The topic on Tuesday, March 4 is “About Kidney Disease.”  The topic on Thursday, March 6 is “Daughters in the City: Mennonite Maids in Vancouver, 1931-1961.” Cost is $5 per class, plus the $2 ARC drop-in fee. EPILEPSY TALK

An information session about epilepsy and seizures is held Wednesday, March 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Abbotsford Regional Hospital (32900 Marshall Rd.) in the main floor conference rooms. BLANKET TIME

Blankets for the Fraser Valley holds its monthly meeting on Thursday, March 6 from 1 to 4 p.m.  at Fraser Valley Christian Centre, 31929 Mercantile Way. All are welcome to help put together knitted and crocheted blankets together for those in need in Abbotsford. Donations of yarn are always appreciated. All materials are supplied. LIBRARY STORYTIME

A story time for World Read Aloud is held Thursday, March 6 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Clearbrook Library, 32320 George Ferguson Way (604-859-7814, ext. 229).

DANCES EVERY FRIDAY

The Abbotsford Social Activity Association holds dances every Friday at the hall at 33889 Essendene Ave. from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Cost is $6 for members and $7 for non-members. Bands for March are: Retrofire (March 7), Midnite Eagles (March 14), Sweetwater (March   21) and Shirley Rodgers (March 28).

CARPET BOWLING

Carpet bowling takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Rd. Cost is $1.25. Info: 604-853-5532
