This is a list of just some of the activities taking place in Abbotsford over the next week


The Fraser Valley Blues Society holds a no-cover jam session on Friday, Jan. 16 at the Eagles Hall, 33868 Essendene Ave. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the band begins playing at 8 p.m. Musicians, bring your own instruments and song list. Info:


The Ukrainian Club of Abbotsford holds its annual Malanka (Ukrainian new year) dinner and dance on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Sts. Joachim and Ann’s Church hall, 2827 273 St. in Aldergrove. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the Yevshan Ukrainian Dancers perform at 6, followed by a buffet dinner with Ukrainian cuisine such as perogies at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 for adults, $15 for kids ages seven to 15, and free for kids six and under. The Baha’i community in Abbotsford hosts a World Religion Day event on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 6:15 to 9:15 p.m. at the Abbotsford Social Activity Association hall, 33889 Essendene Ave. The free event includes dinner, a multi-fatih devotional, a musical presentation and some short talks on “Why I Support Interfaith Cooperation.” Everyone is welcome.


Clearbrook Library hosts a presentation on wine on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 2 to 3 p.m. as part of its Fine Food Series. John Schreiner, author of “John Schreiner’s Okangan Wine Tour Guide” and other works, discusses his latest book and the history of winemaking in B.C. Info: 604-859-7814


Abbotsford Learning Plus hosts a free open house on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Rd. Registration will be taken for the spring semester of classes.


The Abbotsford Genealogical Society hosts its annual general meeting on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at The Reach, 32388 Veterans Way. Info:


The Ex-Brits Club meets three times a month in Abbotsford. The group gets together at 11:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at the Abbotsford Legion, the third Wednesday at Jo Jo’s Fish and Chips, and the last Saturday at the ABC restaurant on Marshall Road. The Mood Disorders Association support group in Abbotsford meets the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at Abbotsford Community Services (2420 Montrose Ave.) It is open to those who have mood disorders such as depression, manic depression, anxiety and panic attacks.
