This is a list of just some of the activities taking place in Abbotsford over the following week


Friends of the Abbotsford Libraries holds a Valentine’s Day book sale on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Abbotsford Community Library (33355 Bevan Ave.). Prices include $2 for adult hardcovers, $1 for children’s hardcovers and 50 cents for paperbacks.


Positive Living Fraser Valley Society hosts a fundraising concert with world-renowned guitarist Don Alder on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (32315 South Fraser Way).  Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $15, $18 and $22 (plus service fee) and are available online at


The Congenital Heart Warriors Walk takes place Saturday, Feb. 14 at Mill Lake Park (Bevan Avenue entrance). Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:30. The event is hosted by the Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance. Info:


The Scandinavian Club of the Fraser Valley hosts its monthly potluck dinner meeting on Monday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Masonic Hall, 33860 Pine St. This month has an Icelandic theme. Abbotsford Learning Plus presents two classes next week in its winter  series. Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC), 2499 McMillan Rd. The topic on Tuesday, Feb. 17 is  “Canada’s Titanic: The Sinking of the Empress of Ireland.”  The topic on Thursday, Feb. 19 is “Remember Us: Letters from Stalin’s Gulag 1930-37.” Cost per class is $5, plus the $2 ARC drop-in fee. The Skills Connect Program for immigrants holds an information session on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Community Services, 2420 Montrose Ave. The program helps participants with finding work in their field of expertise,  job-search techniques, courses and more. The Fraser Valley Watercolour Society hosts an art demo on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 7 to 9  p.m. at W.J. Mouat Secondary, 32355 Mouat Drive, in art room 307. Local artist Anne White will lead the session on painting with coloured permanent inks. The drop-in fee for non-members is $5. Carpet bowling takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Rd. Cost is $1.25. Info: 604-853-5532


The Women with Cancer Support Group meets Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Rd. This is a friendly relaxed meeting where you will find understanding and compassion. Info: Edith at 604-289-0630


The Abbotsford Genealogy Society hosts its monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at The Reach Gallery Museum, 32388 Veterans Way. Cost for non-members is $2. After the meeting, Kris Foulds, collections manager, will highlight The Reach’s online photo archives.
