SLICE OF LIFE: April 18 to 26

Here is a list of some of the events taking place in Abbotsford over the next week.

AT THE LEGION

The Abbotsford branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (2513 West Railway St.) is open at noon daily, including on Good Friday. The band Hong Kong Cowboy performs from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 19.

IN THE LIVING ROOM

The Living Room Support Group – for people living with depression, anxiety or bipolar –  meets Friday, April 18 at New Life Church (35270 DeLair Rd.) from 1 to 3 p.m. The group meets the first and third Fridays of each month. Info: Brenda at 604-853-5043

EASTER EGG HUNT

An Easter egg hunt takes place on Saturday, April 19 at Straiton Hall, 4698 Sumas Mtn. Rd. Doors open at 11:15 a.m. and the hunt begins at 11:30. Kids search for plastic eggs and turn them in for a chocolate bunny, bag of candy and their choice of an Easter novelty. Free temporary tattoos, hot chocolate and cookies are also included. EGGS-STRAVAGANZA

Maan Farms (790 McKenzie Rd.) holds its second annual Easter Eggs-Stravaganza on April 19 and 20. Doors open at 11 a.m., and Easter egg hunts take place at noon and 2 p.m. each day. Face painting, a play area, contests and the Easter Bunny are also included.  Info: 604-864-5723

HYMN SING

A hymn sing takes place on Sunday, April 20 at 7 p.m. at Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church, 2719 Clearbrook Rd. The evening includes the Easter cantata The Day He Wore My Crown by the Chancel Choir. Info: clearbrookmbchurch.ca or 604-850-6607

GARDEN CLUB

The Abbotsford Garden Club meets Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of Abbotsford Middle School, 33231 Bevan Ave. Learn about pairing grasses and perennials with Ewan MacKenzie of Exemplar Horticulture.

LEARNING PLUS

Abbotsford Learning Plus holds its annual spring tea on Tuesday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Rd. Everyone is invited for music and food. The event is free. Info: learningplus.ca or 778-808-7377

HOMINUM MEETS

Hominum Fraser Valley meets Friday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. This is an informal and discussion group to help gay, bisexual and questioning men with the challenges of being married, separated or single. For information and meeting location, call Art at 604-462-9813 or Don at 604-329-9760.

DANCE FOR MS

A fundraising dance for the Multiple Sclerosis Society takes place Friday, April 25 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall, 33868 Essendene Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the dance runs from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with music by Easy Money. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door.

CLOTHESLINE

The Clothesline free clothing give-away takes place next week at Sevenoaks Alliance Church, 2575 Gladwin Rd. It runs on Friday, April 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. Clothing, bedding, towels and blankets are among the items being given away. Info: 604-853-0757

CINCO DE MAYO

The Mexico En La Piel Cultural Society hosts a Cinco de Mayo event on Saturday, April 26 at the Abbotsford Banquet Centre, 33738 Laurel St. Doors open at 5 p.m. The event includes a mariachi band, an authentic Mexican buffet dinner, dancing, door prizes and more. ALATEEN MEETS

Alateen, a part of Al-Anon Family Groups, is for young people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking,  whether it’s a parent, sibling or friend.
