FUNDRAISER FOR JOSHUA

Joshua House, which runs men’s licensed recovery houses in Abbotsford, holds a fundraising dinner and auction on Saturday, April 16 at Immanuel Fellowship Baptist Church, 2950 Blue Jay St. Auction items can be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m., and dinner is served at 6 p.m. Singer Crystal Hicks will perform. ERNIE’S VISIT

Second World War veteran and cartoonist Ernie Poignant, 92, visits Clearbrook Library (32320 George Ferguson Way) on Friday, April 15 at 1 p.m. Poignant, who was born on Matsqui prairie in 1919, worked in a print shop in Vancouver, was compositor for the Quesnel Cariboo Observer, and drew cartoons for the Maple Ridge Gazette and the no-longer-published The Post. No registration is required for the drop-in program.

LOAN SERVICE

The Abbotsford Red Cross Loan Service is in need of several volunteers to help keep their equipment in good order. The service loans equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, bathing accessories, and more to clients  who are recovering from injury or surgery. It is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Saturday at 2316 McCallum Rd. Info: 604-556-3526.

SWAP MEET

The parents’ advisory council at Matsqui elementary holds a kids’ swap meet on Saturday, March 16 at the school, 33661 Elizabeth Ave. Used children’s clothing, toys, books and more will be for sale. Some home-based businesses will also be on hand. Admission is 50 cents. Info: 604-826-8181

The Women With Cancer support group meets Thursday, April 21 in the community room at Real Canadian Superstore on Gladwin Road, starting at 7 p.m. Guest speaker Klaus Ferlow, an herbalist, will discuss the value of herbs and healing and personal-care products without harmful ingredients.
