EASTER EXTRAVAGANZA

Abbotsford Evangelical Church (33218 Marshall Rd.) hosts its annual Easter Extravaganza on Saturday, April 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event starts with a hot breakfast and continues with carnival games, bouncy castles, face painting and live music. WOMEN’S NETWORK

LEARNING PLUS

WATERMEDIA SOCIETY

The Fraser Valley Watermedia Society meets Thursday, April 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in room 307 at W. J. Mouat Secondary. The evening features local artist Meshaal Alzeer facilitating a demo on creating expressionist portraits using a mixture of ink, watercolour and acrylic techniques. Alzeer, a recent graduate of the UFV visual arts program, will bring examples of his work to illustrate his approach. The drop-in fee for non-members is $5. GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

The Abbotsford Genealogical Society hosts “We Fought at Vimy: A Journey in Their Footsteps” on Thursday, April 20 at The Reach Gallery Museum (32388 Veterans Way) from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Using vintage and contemporary photos, videos, personal war files, regimental war diaries and battlefield maps, the journey of three Windram brothers will be followed. GARDEN CLUB

SOUND OF MUSIC

Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts’ Sumas campus presents the musical The Sound of Music on April 20 and 21 at noon and 7 p.m. at the school, 36232 Lower Sumas Mountain Rd. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at the school office. Cost is $10 for matinees and $15 for evening performances.

CITIZENSHIP CLASSES

A free class to prepare individuals to take their Canadian citizenship test runs every Friday, starting April 21, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Abbotsford Community Services, 2420 Montrose Ave. Classes continue until June 9 and are open only to permanent residents.
