The following is list of just some of the activities taking place in Abbotsford over the following week


The Abbotsford Social Activity Association (ASAA) hosts dances every Friday from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at its hall, 33889 Essendene Ave. Cost is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Bands for April are: Ben Isaac/True Country (April 1), Midnight Eagles with Shirley Rogers (April 8), Stillwater (April 15), Sweetwater (April 22) and Rick Noel/Innermild (April 29).


Dr. Win Wachsmann offers a free two-hour workshop called How to be Your Own Boss on Saturday, April 2 at 2518 West Railway St., starting at 10 a.m., for those interested in starting and running their own business. The Fraser Valley Poets Society holds an open mic poetry reading on Monday, April 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Clearbrook Library, 32320 George Ferguson Way. Info: 604-852-2740


The Abbotsford branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association meets Tuesday, April 5 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Rd. Optometrist Dr. Surjinder Sahota will discuss Diabetes and Eye Health. Info: 604-701-7985


Abbotsford Learning Plus presents two classes next week in its spring series. Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC), 2499 McMillan Rd. The topic on Tuesday, April 5 is “Queen Elizabeth and Canada: A Story in Portraits.” The topic on Thursday, April 7 is “Strong Minds, Active Bodies and Young Hearts.” Cost per class is $5, plus the $2 ARC drop-in fee. Blankets for the Fraser Valley holds its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Abbotsford Co-Op Hall, 32855 Marshall Rd. All are welcome to help put together knitted and crocheted blankets for those in need in Abbotsford.
