Sex Trafficking Awareness Night scheduled

The event takes place in Abbotsford on Friday, May 29

An Abbotsford teenager and her friend are organizing an event to raise awareness about sex trafficking.

Amani Schweitzer said 75 to 80 per cent of human trafficking is for sex and that 98 per cent of victims being trafficked for sexual exploitation are girls.

Now she wants to do something about it.

The Sex Trafficking Awareness Night fundraiser will take place on Friday, May 29 at Columbia Bible College. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m.

There will be speakers from Cyrus Centre and REED (Resisting Exploitation, Embrace Dignity), as well as live music, a silent auction, coffee and dessert.

All proceeds from the event will go to REED to help address the issue. Admission to the event is a minimum of $2.

The college is located at 2940 Clearbrook Rd.
