This week, the Abbotsford Salvation Army sent 50 kids ages seven to 12 years to Camp Sunrise in Gibsons, B.C.
Centre of Hope executive director Ian Pollard said the excursion was a “wonderful opportunity” for local kids who might not otherwise get to enjoy a summer getaway to experience what camp has to offer.
He said the agency connects with families through the Centre of Hope’s Family Services program, by visiting Abbotsford school counsellors, and by word of mouth
Camp Sunrise, with a history dating back to 1925, is located on the ocean’s edge on the Sunshine Coast.
Campers enjoy healthy meals, meet new friends, and participate in various outdoor activities such as swimming, zip-lining, rock-climbing, beach combing, canoeing, hiking, archery, field games, and singing around a campfire.
Several local sponsors and donors make it possible for the kids to attend Camp Sunrise each year.
