Rotary Club of Abbotsford honours community leaders

The club presents its annual Paul Harris Fellow Award to two worthy recipients.

The Rotary Club of Abbotsford recently presented Paul Harris Fellow Awards to two community leaders, Lenora McQueen and Gerri Charles.

The awards, named after Paul Harris, founder of Rotary International, are bestowed to members of a club or individuals who have given outstanding service to their community or organization.

This year’s recipients are both high-profile and hard-working supporters of Abbotsford.

Lenora McQueen is a past president of the Rotary Club of Abbotsford. A Rotarian since 1999, McQueen is an active member and has served on the Rotary board of directors in a number of positions including the executive level. She has served as chairperson of the CIBC employee campaign for the United Way and for B.C. Children’s Hospital.

She has also presided over a number of community and international service projects and operational objectives.

Gerri Charles, president at Champagne & Lace Bridal Centre has a long history of community involvement. She is president, 2012 term, of the Abbotsford Executives Association, a board member of Abbotsford Restorative Justice, and a board member of the Abbotsford Heat Foundation.

In 2011, Charles was the chair of the Abbotsford Heat Foundation, Golf Classic. She has also played a major role in raising funds to help fight breast cancer as president of the Crystal Gala Foundation, an annual fundraiser.
