A mother duck and her 11 ducklings made a hazardous journey across busy streets in Abbotsford on Thursday morning.

The family crossed George Ferguson Way, headed north on Gladwin Road and proceeded east along Ventura Avenue.

From there, they trekked through a back lane and then to South Fraser Way, across from Sevenoaks Shopping Centre.

Witness Colin Blackburn, who snapped a photo of the risky trek, flagged down traffic as the group waddled across the road.

"Fortunately, vehicle traffic stopped in both directions for several minutes to allow the group of ducks a safe crossing," he said.

Blackburn then escorted the ducks across the mall parking lot and ushered them around to the back entrance of Sears, along the sidewalk past the underground parking lot, and then on to Mill Lake.

"(It was) quite a journey for the little ones as they would sit down as a group in protest from time to time, and then run up behind mom," he said.

All made the journey safe and sound.
