The 18th annual Ride for the Kids fundraiser for Canuck Place Children's Hospice made a stop in Abbotsford on Wednesday (July 10).
The event is organized by retired hockey player and Vancouver Canucks alumnus Jeff Bandura. An avid cyclist, he started the 100-kilometre ride in 2007 in support of children and families at Canuck Place.
Ride for the Kids, which travels from South Surrey to Abbotsford and back, has since raised more than $800,000.
For the last few years as part of the ride, the group of about 25 riders, along with Canucks mascot Fin, has made a stop at Canuck Place – Dave Lede House in Abbotsford.
Members of the Abbotsford Police Department and other police agencies escort the group during the ride.
Canuck Place has locations in Vancouver and Abbotsford, supporting children with life-threatening illnesses.
Services include respite for the entire family, pain and symptom care, 24-hour province-wide family support, art, education, music and recreation therapy, bereavement counselling and end-of-life care.
