With the holiday season now over, a lot of people are going to be getting rid of their Christmas trees soon, and one Abbotsford group wants to help make sure these old trees are going towards a good cause.

On Saturday, Jan. 4, Matsqui Community Hall is hosting a tree chipping and bottle drive fundraiser where volunteers will be on-site to receive and deal with the various donations that come through.

This environmentally-minded fundraiser aims to collect donations for the Matsqui Prairie Community Association, which is the non-profit that maintains and operates the community hall.

Anyone with a tree or bottles cluttering their home from the holiday season can haul them down to community hall on Jan. 4 and get them dealt with for just a donation. There will also be knife sharpening available as well.

The fundraiser takes place at the Matsqui Community Hall (33676 St. Olaf Ave) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
