Students from Prince Charles Elementary School won the Abbotsford Libraries Reading Link Challenge on Monday at the Clearbrook Library.

The team of students, who call themselves the The Red Turtles, will now advance to the Fraser Valley Regional Library Challenge. They will compete against the winning teams from other Fraser Valley Regional Library municipalities on April 16 at Kwantlen University.

The three top teams from that challenge go on to compete at the BC Grand Reading Link Challenge.

This annual event sponsored by Fraser Valley Regional Library to encourage elementary students to read.

Students in Grades 4 and 5 from each participating school read six books supplied to the schools by the library. Student representatives from each school competed to become the winning Reading Link Challenge team. They were asked questions about the characters, themes, incidents and other facts from the books and the team with the most correct answers, Prince Charles Elementary, was declared the winner.

The Reading Link Challenge's mission is to encourage reading as a fun and recreational activity that allows Grade 4 and 5 students of all reading abilities to engage in the sport of reading.
