Nazarchuk said she would take the plunge if students raised $1,000 for the Terry Fox Run. Fellow staff joined her when they raised $2,200. (Adam Louis/Observer) Egged on by students and honouring their end of the bargain to benefit the Terry Fox Run, HHSE staff members jump into a very cold Harrison Lake. Students and parents alike raised more than $2,200. See more photos and the story on Page A9 and check out a video clip on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AgassizHarrisonObserver. Let the record show Harrison Hot Springs Elementary Tammy Nazarchuk made good on her bet: if the school could rase $1,000 for the Terry Fox Run, she would jump into Harrison Lake.
However, parents and students at HHSE did them one better – they raised more than $2,200.
The day before the jump, donations stood at a respectable $1,600, but the final push meant that four additional staff members would join Nazarchuk in taking the rather cold plunge, plus their special guest Sasquatch. The other divers were La Vern Klassen, Wendy Weaver, Helen Evans and Margot Lawrence.
Little did the audience know until it was too late that the staff packed away water guns, which they quickly unloaded to the delight and shock of the students.
And as the staff dried themselves off and the excitement died down, the Sasquatch shook out its hair and plodded off into the distance.
