Members of the Royal Canadian Legion in Abbotsford and the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadrons from around the Fraser Valley participated on Sept. 14 in commemorating the Battle of Britain.
The groups paraded at Thunderbird Memorial Square in Abbotsford to remember Canadian efforts during the 1940 battle.
Among the participants were 150 air cadets from squadrons in Abbotsford, Langley and Mission.
Abbotsford Mayor Bruce Banman sang O Canada, and Padre Arthur Turnbull served as master of ceremonies, reading the Air Force Prayer.
The 861 Silverfox cadet bugler played the last post. Then the colours were prepared and the Canadian flag was lowered.
A moment of silence was held for those who gave their lives, especially the 47 Canadians who perished.
Rouse, formerly known as Reveille, ended the moment of silence.
Silverfox Warrant Officer 1 Sarah Rummel read the poem "High Flight" before the laying of the wreaths.
Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets; Air Force veterans, associations and serving members; the veterans of Canada and allies; and the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
In closing, the Air Force Hymn was sung, and Turnbull provided the closing prayer and blessing.
The 861 Silverfox band played God Save the Queen, and the parade then marched off.
