The Electa chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Abbotsford Masonic Lodges #70 and #16 recently raised $940 for the Archway Community Services Food Bank in Abbotsford.

The Order of the Eastern Star held a food drive on June 12 at the Masonic Hall on Pine Street, where they collected cash and food donations.

The Electa chapter consists of members from the Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack. It was formed in 1919 and has continued its work for the community ever since, including raising money for various charities.

These endeavours have included the local food bank, the Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope, the Abbotsford Regional Hospital library, BC Guide Dogs, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and more.

The members have also made countless cancer dressings, which are sent to Vancouver to be sterilized and then made available to any cancer patient in B.C. and the Yukon.

They also collect stamps, which are sorted, trimmed and sold to collectors through the Foster Secretary Association – a group within the grand chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. The proceeds are donated to the Cancer Fund.
