One Billion Rising event celebrates International Women's Day

A One Billion Rising event takes place in Abbotsford on Sunday, March 8 in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Memorial Square in civic plaza (32315 South Fraser Way) and includes dance, music, children’s crafts, speakers and an open mic.

From 1 to 3 p.m., the film The Honor Diaries will be shown at The Reach Gallery Museum (32388 Veterans Way), followed by a panel discussion.

The film features nine women’s rights advocates talking about gender inequality.

Admission is free, but those wanting to see the film must register in advance, due to limited seating, by calling 604-850-8087.

One Billon Rising is an international movement to end violence against women and girls.

The local event is hosted by several organizations in Abbotsford and Mission.
