News staff nominated for seven B.C. awards

Staff at the Abbotsford News will be recognized for producing some of the best community newspaper work in B.C.

Nominees for “Ma Murray” Awards by the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspapers Association were announced recently, and News staff members have been nominated as top three finalists in seven categories.

– Sports editor Dan Kinvig  is nominated for a sports writing award for his feature headlined Gray gets the Point.

– Photographer John Van Putten is a finalist in the spot news category for his photo of police taking down a suspect at gunpoint.

– Creative services manager Alana Green is nominated in the newspaper promotion category for Captain Black’s Treasure Quest.

– Graphic artist Claire Petherwick is a finalist in the collaborative ad campaign category for her work on Pistachio.

– Two graphic artists from the Abby News are nominated for ad design awards: Shelby Maryniuk for the Ronald Allan Final Sale ad, and Cristine MacDonald for the ad Time to Get Personal.

– The News is also nominated for a website and online innovation award.

The nominees will attend an awards gala on April 30 at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, where the placings of the top three nominees will be announced.
