The rehab team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital recently received a new piece of equipment called the Sara Combilizer.

Abbotsford Regional Hospital’s rehabilitation team is celebrating the addition of a new piece of equipment.

The Sara Combilizer allows patients to transition seamlessly between lying, sitting and standing positions without the need for traditional transfers.

The equipment was acquired through donations from the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF).

"Early and efficient mobilization is crucial for physical stimulation, promoting stronger muscles and bones, and improving vascular and respiratory function, which is why the foundation remains committed to providing innovative and patient-centred care for the community," said Dr. Lakhbir Jassal of the FVHCF.

She said the Sara Combilizer’s versatility is particularly beneficial for patients who are unable to stand or bear weight on their own.

Jason Krahn, physiotherapy practice lead at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, said the equipment has been an "amazing addition" to the rehab team and has already been used many times.

“It is so useful for patients who have experienced severe strokes, multi-trauma, or those from the ICU who are extremely weak and debilitated and unable to stand," he said.

“This vital piece of equipment significantly enhances our ability to provide effective and compassionate care to our patients. It empowers our therapists with the tools they need to deliver the most impactful rehabilitation programs”.
