The 42nd annual Berry Fest takes place in Abbotsford on Saturday, July 12.

The 42nd annual Berry Fest, presented by Watty Insurance Services Ltd and hosted by the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association, takes place in Abbotsford on Saturday, July 12.

The event runs from noon to 8 p.m. in the historic downtown core in the area of Essendene and Montrose avenues.

The festival includes a mix of entertainment, family-friendly activities, food and community fun.

New additions this year include a skate park – open from noon to 6 p.m – with demos and opportunities to try the course and participate in a best-trick contest. Skaters are encouraged to bring their own boards and gear.

Also new is the Calm Corner, a sensory-friendly zone providing a peaceful space for visitors to unwind. The section includes colouring activities, reading, secluded seating, and a quiet environment away from the festival bustle.

Returning highlights include a market with more than 70 vendors featuring unique products, food, crafts and more; several food trucks; a Kids Zone with rides and other activities; Berry's Backyard with classic outdoors games; and lots of berry products for sale from fresh fruit to pies and preserves.

The event also includes a pie bake-off at 1 p.m. and pie-eating contests at 2 p.m. for juniors (ages 10 to 16) and at 3 p.m. for adults (17 and older). All take place on the main stage.

Stage entertainment throughout the day includes the Abby Senior Rock Band, Ngoma Troupe (an African dance group), a jam dance, the Goddess Movement, Abbotsford Dance Centre, crowd games and a Tragically Hip tribute at 7 p.m.
