Mini bonspiel in Abbotsford aids Campus of Care

A fundraising bonspiel takes place in Abbotsford at the end of January to support a major health-care project.

The annual Curl for Care mini curling bonspiel, formerly known as Curl for Kids, will take place Sunday, Jan. 29, with partial proceeds going to the Dave Lede Campus of Care in Abbotsford.

The event takes place at the Abbotsford Curling Club, 2555 McMillan Rd.

Registration is $50 per person or $200 per four-person team and includes equipment, instructions, a buffet lunch and a chance to win prizes.

All proceeds from the silent auction and door prizes go to the Campus of Care, currently under construction adjacent to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

The project includes Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, the Abbotsford Hospice Society’s adult hospice, and Matthew’s House, which offers respite care to children with severe disabilities.

Preceding the mini bonspiel is a dance at the curling club on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 8 p.m. to midnight, featuring the classic rock band Topaz.

Tickets are $20.

This year’s bonspiel is held in memory of Scott Gmur, a resident of Abbotsford who lost his battle with melanoma on May 30, 2011.

Curl for Kids held 19 annual events, raising more than $100,000 for Abbotsford charities.
