Mike Welte named new president of Abbotsford-Matsqui Rotary Club

Takes on new position as of July 1, along with recently inducted board of directors

The Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Matsqui has announced the installation of Mike Welte as its new president, effective July 1.

Welte has been a member of the club since 2010 and has served on the board as treasurer and president-elect.

Welte is a senior manager of commercial banking at Canadian Western Bank in Abbotsford and is the past president of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.

He was born, raised and educated in Abbotsford, where he lives with his wife Kacey.

Welte continues to serve as an active community volunteer on numerous boards and committees in the community.

“I am honoured and sincerely looking forward to serving the members of our club as the president of the Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Matsqui,” he said.

“I believe this will be one of the best Rotary years yet as our club looks for additional ways to serve our local community and communities abroad.”

The Rotary International theme for 2016-2017 is “Rotary Serving Humanity.”

Members around the world are providing clean drinking water, promoting peace in conflict areas, strengthening literacy and working to eradicate polio.

Also inducted to the board of directors were: Alexis Eagles, Peter Scales, Matt Robinson, Neal Doan, Stuart Greaves, Aird Flavelle, Darry Taylor, Tyler Coburn, Marie Van Dalfsen, Vickie Raw, Raj Patara and Gordon Butt.
