Meteor shower watch at Aldergrove Regional Park

Stargazers are invited to attend an event to view the annual Perseid meteor shower, which peaks on Aug. 12

A dazzling display of shooting stars awaits viewers at the annual Perseid meteor shower this Saturday at Aldergrove Regional Park.

The audience of stargazers is invited to listen to stories and gaze at the stars. Telescopes will be provided by volunteers with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.

Although the Perseid meteor shower will peak on Aug. 12, there should be great viewing on the nights leading up to this date.

Event activities run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Overnight campers must arrive between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to set up camp. Bring a sleeping bag, an air mattress or blanket.

This program is weather-dependent.  The event will be cancelled by 4 p.m. if there is complete cloud over.  Call 604-530-4983 on the day of the event to confirm if the meteor shower watch will be held as scheduled.

There will be a drop-in fee of $2 per person.
