Mennonite Heritage Museum celebrates Family Day

Open house on Monday includes plenty of activities

The Mennonite Heritage Museum (1818 Clearbrook Rd.) holds a Family Day open house on Monday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Drop-in activities offered from include an exhibition-inspired “I Spy” activity, child-friendly museum worksheets, a “Paint Your Own Russian Figurine” craft, and admission to the museum’s permanent exhibition.

In addition, the Mennonite Historical Society of BC, located on the second floor of the museum, will provide families the chance to discover their genealogies through the society’s extensive databases.

The event also includes a family-friendly story time at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Storytellers include Ruth Derksen Siemens about Mennonite maids in Vancouver, Irmgard Thiessen about the discovery of her family’s buried dishes in Poland (on display at the museum), and Louise Bergen Price about the tradition of Mennonite quilts gifted to former refugees like herself.

Admission to the open house is by donation.
