Learn how to write a powerful press release May 15 as the Abbotsford Arts Council (AAC) presents “Making the News” at the Kariton Art Gallery.
The featured speakers will be Kathleen Rake, writer, editor and publisher at Click Media Works and Swift Kick Guides, and Rick Rake, a 30-year communications professional and former editor of the Abbotsford News.
The media release, also known as a press or news release, is one of the most cost-effective marketing tools available to any organization. This short session will examine the media release from two points of view: the person sending the release and the person receiving it.
Kathleen recently launched her newest project, Swift Kick Guides, a series of ebooks providing “essential information for smart and busy people.” With more than 20 years of writing and editing experience, Kathleen is also a long-time member of the Professional Writers Association of Canada and the founding president of its Fraser Valley chapter.
Rick spent more than 30 years in print journalism, the last 10 as managing editor of The Abbotsford News. He is a media relations specialist, and a relationship builder who has developed contacts at corporate, government and community levels. He knows whom to contact and what to send, helping clients increase their chances of being published on the web, appearing in print, television or radio.
Next week’s event is the third session of the 2014 speaker series, sponsored by the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.
Pre-registration is $15 for AAC members, and $25 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased at pressreleaseabbotsford.eventbrite.ca or at the Kariton Art Gallery and Boutique.
The event will get underway at 6:30 p.m. The gallery is located at 2387 Ware St. For more information visit abbotsfordartscouncil.org.
