Abbotsford is among the communities across Canada aking part today (Wednesday) in McHappy Day.
Funds raised in Abbotsford will, in part, benefit the Salvation Army.
Five McDonald’s locations will donate the funds to the Pantry34 Program, which ensures that all youths in the community have access to healthy snacks and beverages at any time of the school day.
The items are distributed at the teacher’s discretion during the school day.
The program runs from September to June and currently serves 17 schools in Abbotsford.
Salvation Army volunteers assemble the food and beverages in large re-useable bins in the meal centre, and a driver delivers the bins to the schools as needed.
Each school has an average of 10 to 25 kids who regularly use the program.
McHappy Day is held annually across Canada, with $1 from every Big Mac, Happy Meal and McCafe hot beverage sold going to Ronald McDonald Houses and other children’s charities.
VIP guests from throughout the community serve customers on this day.
The McDonald’s locations raising funds for the Salvation Army are located on Bourquin Crescent, Clearbrook Road, Mt. Lehman Road, and the two Walmart locations (on Vedder Way and at Highstreet mall).
Also at the Bourquin location on McHappy Day, a Ford Drive One 4 UR Community event is taking place. For every test drive that people take, Ford will donate funds to Ronald McDonald House and the Pantry34 Program.
