Margaret Leboe of Abbotsford celebrated her 100th birthday on Aug. 24 with a party attended by family and friends at The Cottage.
Margaret was born in rural Saskatchewan. She lost her mother when she was a young child and and moved to British Columbia at the age of 15.
She delivered rural mail by horseback, and met and settled with her husband Wilfred in Crescent Spur, B.C. – site of the pioneer family mill, Leboe Lumber. They operated the town store before moving to Prince George, then Kal Lake in Vernon and ultimately in Abbotsford to be closer to family.
Margaret is a mom of six, and her family says she nurtures her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren "with unwavering love and dedication."
"Her entrepreneurial spirit contributed to the Canadian society in various ventures – horticulture, real estate, restaurateur, and as a champion bowler and competitive Scrabble player," they say.
An avid world traveller, Margaret tells of experiences around the globe, and she retains the family "fashionista" title.
"Margaret’s outstanding hospitality and culinary genius is known far and wide. She holds a doctorate in the art of apple pie and cinnamon buns. Her creations have been the highlight of countless family gatherings, celebrations and charity auctions," her family says.
When people ask her secret to long life, she replies, “You’ll have to ask God about that.”
Margaret has been a resident of The Cottage long-term care home for the past year.
Her milestone birthday was marked with greetings from around the world and congratulations from King Charles III, Gov.-Gen. of Canada Mary Simon and Abbotsford MP Ed Fast.
