Locked up to raise funds for Abbotsford SPCA shelter

BC SPCA shelter manager Jodi Dunlop and Bakerview Pet Hospital veterinarian Dr. Kelly O’Blenis will be locked in dog kennels for 29 hours at the BC SPCA Abbotsford shelter Aug. 20-21 to raise funds for the shelter’s “Kennel Lock-In.”

The event is a fundraiser for Abbotsford’s BC SPCA & Scotiabank Paws for a Cause. Starting at noon on Saturday, Aug. 20 until 5 p.m. Sunday, the two will eat, drink and rest in sleeping bags inside the kennel. Both women will don studded collars with matching leashes and will be accompanied throughout the lock-in by two chihuahuas.

Anyone who would like to help the cause is encouraged to donate directly to the shelter or can also take Dunlop or Blenis for a walk for a donation of $5 for a five-minute outing.

A web cam will be mounted in the women’s kennels and streamed online so supporters can check on them round the clock.

Dunlop is asking for the support of animal lovers to support the many homeless, neglected and injured animals in the local community. All funds raised by this event will go directly to the work of the Abbotsford shelter.

“Fundraisers like this are great fun and incredibly important in supporting our life-saving work,” said Dunlop.
