A local educational assistant has been recognized by the province and given an award for her work at Abbotsford’s Prince Charles Elementary School.

Sandra Breslin was given a Premier’s Award for Excellence in Education for Outstanding Support Teacher of the Year at an ceremony in Victoria on Oct. 4.

“[She is] a dedicated, passionate and enthusiastic educational assistant. Breslin wants every child to be the best they can be and to feel safe, loved and cared for at school,” said a press release from the office of the premier. “She is committed to making her school a more inclusive and supportive place for all and has led her school on a transformative journey toward inclusion and growth in the areas of social and emotional learning.

The awards were created last year to show appreciation for education workers, teachers and administrators.

Premier John Horgan, Minister of Education Rob Fleming and Lt. Gov. Janet Austin were present at the awards event.

“All British Columbians benefit from the outstanding efforts of teachers, administrators and support workers,” Horgan said.

“[They] are exemplary in their commitment to student success, making schools safe and welcoming places for all, innovative learning approaches and strong leadership, and having made lasting impacts on people’s lives.”
