King Traditional Elementary School celebrated 20 years of education in Abbotsford on Wednesday evening, with an aboriginal song and dance, speeches, kids' activities and dinner.

The school is the oldest of five traditional schools in the district.

Traditional schools are public schools which adhere to a more structured format, with high expectations for behaviour and uniforms for all students.

The school's most special aspect is the "coordinated effort" between teachers and parents in the children's education, according to school board trustee Cindy Schafer.
