Israel/Palestine conflict addressed at presentation

The event is organized by the Trinity Memorial United Church's new initiative, The Spiritual Pathway to Awakening Centre

Trinity Memorial United Church sponsors an event on Feb. 7 that it hopes will help participants better understand the complexities of the Israel/Palestine conflict.

“Perspectives on the Israel/Palestine Conflict” takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church, at 33737 George Ferguson Way.  The event is organized by the church’s new initiative, The Spiritual Pathway to Awakening Centre.

“The conflict has been going on for almost 100 years, and directly or indirectly it affects each of our lives,” said Rev. Bill Booth, the church’s minister. “We feel that events like this provide an opportunity for Canadians to better understand the dynamics at work and develop more informed opinions. Ongoing conflict that impacts the world such as the situation in Palestine/Israel impact spiritual well-being for all the world.”

Ron Dart, professor of political science at the University of the Fraser Valley, will speak about Christian Zionism and the influence that the ideology has on the conflict.

Local resident Philip Sherwood will present a slideshow illustrating how the Israeli military occupation affects the Palestinian residents of the West Bank city of Hebron.

Sherwood has travelled throughout the West Bank and recently spent 10 days in Hebron as part of a Christian Peacemakers Team delegation. The event is by donation. For more, call the church at 604-853-2591 or email tmucabb@telus.net.
