Craft beer producers from across the Lower Mainland showed off their freshest brews to an enthusiastic crowd at BC Hop Fest on Oct. 3, an event at Kinloch Farms celebrating fresh-hopped beer.
The seasonal brews can only be made just as hops are harvested – a short window in early fall. Using fresh-off-the-vine hops, rather than dried, gives these beers a unique flavour, aficionados say.
Seventeen British Columbia breweries attended the event. Abbotsford’s newly opened Ravens Brewing Company won the people’s choice award with their fresh-hopped extra special bitter.
Organizers hope to make the event an annual celebration.
