Local residents have an opportunity to learn more about human rights, international law, and the Palestine-Israel conflict on Monday, Oct. 28 during a presentation at University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford.

Jonathan Kuttab, a leading Palestinian human rights lawyer and advocate for non-violence, will speak in room B121 at 11 a.m.

The event, sponsored by UFV Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights, is free and open to the public.

“We’re excited to have Jonathan Kuttab speak on campus as he has a long history of principled activism,” said Taylor Allenby, president of UFV–SPHR.

“Canadians are committed to human rights and the rule of law, so we’re looking forward to learning more about the roles that international law and human rights must play in forging a just, sustainable peace.”

Kuttab is a partner in an East Jerusalem law firm and a member of the bar associations in New York, Israel and Palestine.

In 1979, he co-founded Al Haq, the first international human rights legal organization in Palestine. More recently, in 2017, he was a visiting scholar at Osgoode Law School at York University in Toronto.
