The auxiliary to Abbotsford Regional Hospital was recently recognized for contributing more than 95 years of service and over $1 million in donations.

A celebration was held at the hospital to honour current and former members and to unveil a donor board.

Over the years, the auxiliary has provided donations to purchase staff-requested equipment and sponsor patient programs throughout hospital and the Cottage/Worthington Pavilions.

The executive team, the convenors, and volunteer membership donate their time and service to the auxiliary, keeping the membership at over 100.

Some members take on various roles in a number of areas, including off site managing the auxiliary, contributing to fundraising efforts and finding ways to enhance membership

Some of the executive continue to work on vacation in other countries, while others continue to offer their service through serious illness and losses.

The auxiliary also supports and sponsors youth in residential care volunteer positions, and mentor teens in the Abbotsford Regional Hospital Gift Shop.

Youth volunteers are encouraged to apply for a yearly bursary.

The auxiliary works alongside community hospital volunteers, and together in 2015 these teams contributed 42,369 hours.
