Health experts to answer questions

Physical activity experts will answer the public’s questions about the connection between physical activity and health

A public presentation will bring two of the world’s top physical activity experts to answer the public’s questions about the connection between physical activity and health.

The Abbotsford Division of Family Practice along with Healthy Abbotsford will host Dr. Steven Blair and Dr. Karim Khan on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Brenda Adams, community co-ordinator for Healthy Abbotsford, said the presentation is part of a larger initiative in Abbotsford called Exercise is Medicine that aims to make physical activity a priority in primary care settings. The goal is to get physicians to talk to their patients about physical activity and “actually prescribe it as a treatment.”

Adams said that Blair is a leading expert in the role of exercise in health. He will be speaking to the medical community in the morning and in the evening will give a presentation and answer questions based on the most current health-related research.

“There’s a lot of confusion out there around physical activity and health… so it will be an opportunity for the public to get some answers.”
