Harvest Fest set for Saturday

Fall festival features fun and food

The 2014 Abbotsford Harvest Fest kicks off this Saturday, promising an afternoon of fun and food from 3 to 7 p.m. at Central Heights Church.

Rain or shine, the event will include carnival games, candy-apple dipping, rain gutter boat races, barbecue and sweet treats, hourly prize draws, and contests, including a no-carve pumpkin decorating contest.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response to the event so far,” said event producer Anita Manderson, who runs Your Pregnancy Options, a pregnancy support centre in Abbotsford. “We’re expecting a great turn out with lots of families – parents, children, grandparents – all taking time out to have fun together as we welcome fall.”

Ron Goerz is the chair of the board for the event organizers. He sees the event as a chance to give back to the many people in Abbotsford who partner with the pregnancy centre in providing care to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

“We are deeply grateful for the solid support of the many individuals, families, organizations and businesses who serve with us. We want to say thank you by providing an opportunity to celebrate together.”

Numerous local businesses are sponsoring the event including Willowview Farms, the Apple Barn, Blackwood Building Centre, Consulting Resource Group, Seven Oaks Shopping Centre, the Abbotsford Lions Club and more.

Although there is no admission fee, attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Abbotsford Food Bank.
