A free half-day workshop will be held for Abbotsford non-profits on Friday, Feb. 6 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

The event is hosted by Dr. Darryl Plecas, MLA for Abbotsford South, in partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV).

The day will feature talks from Kevin McCort, president and CEO of the Vancouver Foundation, who will be speaking on sustainable funding for non-profits, and Suzanne Ferguson, executive director of labour market programs for the ministry of jobs, tourism and skills training, who will speak on leveraging the BC-Canada Jobs Grant for non-profit organizations.

The day will also feature presentations by Justin P. Goodrich, managing partner at Giesbrecht, Goodrich and Co., who will speak on advocacy and government relations for non-profits, and Madeleine Hardin, an associate professor at UFV, who will speak on how to write an effective grant.

Designed as part of an ongoing community engagement program, Plecas noted that “part of public service is identifying needs in our community and playing our part in helping to meet those needs.”

He went on to note that “this is also a great opportunity for us to showcase an awesome program that will have tangible benefits for participants.”

To register, contact Amber Born at 604-744-0700. Doors open at 12:50 p.m. on the Abbotsford campus, B101.
