The Gift of Love Gala for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is normally held in Abbotsford every year, but this year’s event goes virtual on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Hundreds of people across British Columbia and beyond will come together at 8 p.m. from the comfort of their homes to raise funds for pediatric palliative care in the Fraser Valley and across B.C. and Yukon.
The event is hosted by media personality and author Riaz Meghji. The gala also features special guests, including Vancouver Canucks alumni and a performance by the MEI Screaming Eagles Marching Band, Pacific Mennonite Children’s Choir, and Abbotsford singer-songwriter Kassandra Clack.
Attendees will have access to an exclusive online auction and have the opportunity to make their evening at home extra special with offerings from local hospitality partners Restaurant 62, Roots and Wings Distillery, Marquis Wine Cellars, Legends Haul, and Klassic Catering.
Canuck Place mom Chelsea Ruf will share the story of her son, Colten, who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy – SMA Type 1 and passed away at just four months old.
Canuck Place cared for the entire family, providing medical respite, end-of-life care, and bereavement counselling at home and at Canuck Place – Dave Lede House in Abbotsford.
All funds raised at the Gift of Love Gala will support the delivery of complex care for over 818 children facing life-threatening illnesses and their families across B.C. More than 45 per cent of children and families on the Canuck Place program reside in the Fraser Health Region.
