Fundraiser held for Children's Hospital

Local man to sell pulled pork, hot dogs on Saturday at Save On Foods on Sumas Way.

An Abbotsford man is holding a fundraiser on Saturday in hopes of  helping Children's Hospital.

Nathan Gelderman and a group of volunteers will be at the the Sumas Way Save On Foods store selling pulled pork and hot dogs.

The proceeds will go toward purchasing new leather reclining chairs to help make life a little more comfortable for patients and parents that are currently calling the oncology ward at Childrens Hospital home.

Gelderman got the idea after his niece Farrah was diagnosed with leukemia in March. She was just nine months old. She is now in her final round of chemotherapy and doing well.

During her time there, Gelderman noticed that there was just one leather reclining chair at the facility which made the round's through the ward. He said it was "very sought after" by both patients and parents and it made things a "little more comfortable for them."

Seasonal 56 Restaurant in Langley will cook the roasts for the event. Other sponsors include Gelderman Farms, and Save On Foods.
