Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery will loan fishing rods

The Abbotsford facility is part of the province-wide Go Fish BC! program

Freshwater fishing is an increasingly popular pastime, and fishing gear is an important part of the angling experience. Not having fishing gear is no longer a barrier for those new to angling.

Now, those curious about fishing or anglers keen to share their favourite fishing spots with friends are able to borrow the gear for free. The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC has expanded the Go Fish BC! Rod Loan Program to 16 locations throughout B.C.

There are now 20 rods available to borrow at the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery Visitor Centre in Abbotsford.

“With the popularity of freshwater fishing growing, along with increasing awareness of the world-class calibre of freshwater fishing throughout British Columbia, there was a real call to expand the program,” said Jessica Borrows, rod loan program co-ordinator. “The pilot program had good usage and we hope this will improve with increased awareness that the rods are available.”

To borrow a rod and tackle, visit Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery Visitor Centre at 34345 Vye Rd. or call 604-504-4716.

Borrowers may present a credit card or leave a small deposit as insurance, which will be returned when the fishing gear is dropped off.

Rods may be borrowed for up to a week.
