A former member of the Silverfox air cadet squadron in Abbotsford has been presented with a $1,500 bursary from the Abbotsford branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Warrant Officer Simon Grant received the award as a recipient of the Cadet Medal for Bravery.

Grant received the medal in 2012 in relation to an incident that occurred in October 2009 in Fort Langley. During a cadet-assisted event, he saw an unattended parked bus start to roll toward an embankment. He got on the bus and stopped it, saving the people aboard the bus, as well as bystanders, from potential injury.

He is now attending the University of Victoria, and the bursary was recently presented by legion branch president Geoff Hosking to his aunt, Debbie Bourdages, on behalf of Grant.
