A former Abbotsford police chief has been appointed as a full-time member of the Parole Board of Canada.

Ian Mackenzie was first appointed as a part-time member of the Pacific region in 2009, and reappointed part-time in February 2012.

Mackenzie worked for 32 years in a variety of roles with the Abbotsford and Vancouver police departments. He was chief constable in Abbotsford from 2001 to 2007.

Upon his retirement, he joined the full-time faculty at University of the Fraser Valley. There, he teaches criminal law, criminal procedure and civil liberties courses at the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice.

Mackenzie is a member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.

The Parole Board of Canada makes decisions on conditional releases, record suspensions and clemency recommendations of offenders.

Mackenzie was among three people who were appointed or reappointed to positions on the parole board.

Laura Hall of Delta was also appointed as a full-time member for the Pacific region, while Lorrie Vacing Sherwood Park, Alta. was reappointed to the Prairies region.
