Food safety in focus at UFV lecture

Dr. Sylvain Charlebois, an expert in national and global food safety, is the third presenter in the University of the Fraser Valley’s President’s Leadership Lecture Series.

Charlebois’ lecture, entitled “Where is the global food system headed?” will challenge each of us to think about the ramifications of food safety and security and its importance to our everyday lives.

Dr. Charlebois makes his first appearance at UFV on Tuesday, April 26, with an informal session from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Room B101 on the Abbotsford campus, followed by a free public lecture from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in the lecture theatre (Room B101).

Charlebois is associate dean of the College of Management and Economics at the University of Guelph. He is a member of the National Advisory Board of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. He has also served as the Director of the Johnson-Shoyana Graduate School of Public Policy in Saskatchewan. His current research is on food safety, security and distribution. He also has considerable expertise in food crisis management and Canadian marketing boards.

Charlebois conducts policy analysis, evaluation and demonstration projects for government agencies and major foundations, focusing on agricultural issues and community development in Canada and abroad. He has testified many times before parliamentary committees on food policy and served as an advisor nationally and internationally on food safety. His new book on global food safety systems is due to be published by UBC Press later this year.
