The Heat in the Street ball hockey series returned to Abbotsford for its third season on Thursday at Eugene Reimer Middle School.
Two more events are planned over the summer – one on Aug. 1 at Mouat Secondary (32355 Mouat Drive) and the other on Aug. 22 at Margaret Stenersen Elementary (3060 Old Clayburn Rd.).
All games run from 7 to 9 p.m.
The main goal of the Heat in the Street program is to make better connections between Abbotsford’s emergency responders and the neighbourhoods they serve while promoting the positive benefits of sports.
This event is staffed mostly by volunteers and has been growing in popularity since its inception in 2011.
Kids play shoulder to shoulder with firefighters, police officers and paramedics in a fun, non-competitive environment.
Two games are run concurrently – one for kids 12 and under and one for teens – and all the equipment is provided.
Besides the hockey games, activities include games for children, prizes, tours of emergency vehicles and other fun activities. Special surprise guests will be on hand and snacks will be provided by local sponsors.
