Every Girl Matters Day held in Abbotsford

The event takes place Saturday, Oct. 11 at The Reach Gallery Museum

The GirlKIND Foundation in Abbotsford partners with the Reach Gallery Museum on Saturday, Oct. 11 to present the second-annual Every Girl Matters Day.

The event is being held in conjunction with the UN’s Day of the Girl, which calls on communities around the world to recognize the injustices girls face and to celebrate their abilities.

The free public event in Abbotsford runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Reach (32388 Veterans Way).

Abbotsford West MLA Mike de Jong will present the proclamation for Every Girl Matters Day.

Coffee and cake will be served, and there will be a screening of the critically acclaimed film “Girl Rising,” which documents the lives of girls around the world who are making a difference in their communities.

An area will be set up for people to create inspiring pieces of art.

GirlKIND has initiated a worldwide “Every Girl Matters Photo Campaign,” asking the public to participate in answering the question as to why girls matter. More information is available at girlkind.org. To register for the film screening, call 604-864-8087.
