With $12,000 worth of food donations, last year’s food drive supported by the Fraser Valley Automall was the most successful to date.
That is, until this December rolled around.
That record has now increased to $15,000, due to this year’s collaborative efforts of the automall’s eight dealerships, Save-On-Foods, and the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service.
It seems Steve Magown’s ongoing plan to build the momentum of the fundraiser over the past five years has been successful.
“Every year we want to make this a bigger and better thing because every year the demand is greater,” said Magown, spokesperson for the Fraser Valley Automall.
In its first year, the initiative gathered nearly $7,000 worth of food donations.
This Saturday, a convoy of trucks and cars will head down South Fraser Way, from the automall at Mt. Lehman Road to deliver the donations to the food bank at 33914 Essendene Ave.
Magown said that food will be piled high in the back of participating vehicles, including two or three fire trucks, two police cars, a Save-On-Foods semi-trailer and at least seven cars from different dealerships.
“It seems that the more noise we make going down South Fraser Way, the more people come to donate the next year.”
The event starts at 11 a.m.
