Local businessman Darshan Sharma is collecting donations for Fort McMurray relief efforts.

Friends and family of those affected in Fort McMurray will be collecting donations this weekend in Abbotsford to ship to Northern Alberta to help evacuees.

A charity drive supported by Casey Transport, which has donated a 53-foot trailer, and Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service will take place Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the parking lot next to Finnegan’s Pub, at 33780 King Rd., near the Abbotsford Centre.

Items will be sent to a local charity that is accepting a variety of goods for evacuees.

Items needed include new clothing: sweatpants, T-shirts, pyjamas, bathrobes, socks, underwear and undershirts.

Wrapped pillows, reusable cloth shopping bags, bottled water, juice boxes, new toys and pet food are also needed.
